One of the advantages of having one's personal belongings and bedding along in an unfamiliar setting is that they can provide a sense of comfort and piece of home. With that in mind,Ê Summit permits a child to have a wide range of possessions, including (but not limited to) sports equipment, computers, stereo sets,Êvideo games and musical instruments.
Summit is not able to accept responsibility for the security of anyone's personal belongings, however, so we suggest that you either limit what your child will bring to Summit or explore the possibility of insuring against loss or damage.
In addition to its obvious value as protection from the elements, clothing can serve as a statement to the world of who we are and how we feel about ourselves. This is especially true for adolescents, whose sense of identity is very changeable and whose statements and feelings tend to be provocative, and it is even more so for troubled adolescents.
We have found that we help children to find their own “style” (in life as well as clothing) by not taking great offense at the more extreme fashions currently in vogue. Instead,ÊSummit staff focuses on whether a child's attire is appropriate for the activity and weather while providing subtle redirection through modeling of more conventional self-expression.
