The Summit Children's Residence Center is a 115 bed Residential Treatment Center and School operating under a Charter from the New York State Board of Regents, with approval by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and departments of social services.
Our licenses allow us to contract with local school districts to provide residential treatment to emotionally troubled adolescents. Additionally, these licenses assure parents that Summit meets the highest standards of safety, program, and personnel.
Summit was founded in 1974 to serve the needs of emotionally troubled children and adolescents. Our basic purpose has been to provide an open setting in which children with serious learning and adjustment problems can experience the the benefits of a closely supervised therapeutic environment.
Our program includes specialized education and recreation services; intensive individual and group psychotherapy; constructive parent communication; close psychiatric supervision; supportive general medical care; and a humane, caring atmosphere. It is our belief that developing stable and gratifying relationships with adults and other children at Summit are the keys to successful changes in patterns of behavior and motivation. By reinforcing these social skills through our entire program, it is our goal to ensure that these patterns are applied to life after Summit.
